DAILY SCHEDULE
Please note that all times are approximations
8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Welcome. Each child is individually greeted as they come in; parents and caregivers communicate about the child’s night/morning and any special needs or concerns the child may have. Breakfast is served, caregivers and children discuss what will happen during the day.
9:00-9:50 a.m. Free play. Children help themselves to blocks, floor toys, table toys (manipulatives), puzzles, dramatic play, writing materials, and books. Caregivers facilitate play by asking questions, assisting when needed, redirecting if conflicts arise.
9:50-10:00. Clean up. Children assist caregivers in cleaning up the play area.
10:00-10:10. Circle Time. Children sit in a circle for songs, finger plays, musical instrument enjoyment.
10:10-10:20. Snack Time. Children wash hands, enjoy light snack, clean up.
10:20-11:15. Outdoor Play. Children choose from a wide variety of outdoor activities, including slides, ride-on toys, climbing, sand and water play. In addition, caregivers bring music and books outside, and an art easel is available.
11:15-11:45. Free Play, Emphasis on Art. Children are invited to choose from a large range of art activities, including tempera paint, finger paint, collage materials and clay. If children prefer, floor and table toys are also available.
11:45-11:50. Clean up. Toys and art materials are put away, children wash hands and faces.
11:50-12:15. Lunch. Children help set napkins and silverware out on tables, and lunch, featuring fresh, home made organic ingredients, is served. Children and caregivers sit together during lunch and review some of the morning’s activities. Children help clean up, wash hands.
12:15-12:45. Outdoor Play. Children enjoy brief outdoor period while nap area is prepared.
12:45-1:00 p.m. Stories and Lullabies. Hands are washed, caregivers read several stories, lullabies play quietly in the background.
1:00-3:00. Rest Time. Children rest on individual cots or cribs. Children may take books or quiet toys to bed with them. Caregivers remain close by.
3:00-3:15. Snack time. Children wash hands, enjoy snack.
3:15-4:30. Outdoor Play. Children engage in a variety of outdoor activities, as above.
4:30-5:30. Free Play/Departure. Hands are washed, light snack is offered, children participate in indoor activity choices until their parent arrives. At departure, caregiver and parent briefly discuss child’s day; child is hugged and invited to come back the following day!
Note: Some variation in schedule as follows:
Wednesdays: 10:20-11:00 a.m. Dance Class. Children enjoy an open-ended opportunity to express themselves to a variety of music. Led by outside dance instructor, Elizabeth Kert.
Neighborhood Walks. 10:00-11:30. Frequently, two children at a time will take a walk with a caregiver to local parks and libraries, spots of interest such as construction sites or the firehouse, or just to explore. This occurs on rainy days as well as sunny ones!
